4K Ultra HD and HDR Has Arrived!
We’ve made a big update to our encoding and streaming system to support playback of 4K Ultra HD and HDR (High Dynamic Range). This includes resolutions of 1440p and 2160p. To playback 4K resolutions in a browser, it will need to support the HEVC codec (currently supported by Safari and Edge). More details are available in our Help Center.
Improved Streaming for All Videos
4K and HDR are not the only improvements we’ve made. We’ve upgraded our streaming format to the latest technology across all resolutions. Viewers will now benefit from adaptive bitrate switching and faster loading of videos. They can also choose their desired playback resolution or leave it on Auto (adaptive). Initially, only new uploads and previously uploaded 4K videos will use the updated format.
Retroactive 4K Playback
For videos that were previously uploaded in 4K or above, we have begun the process of re-transcoding these into our new 4K streaming format. This process should be completed by Monday, October 5. You do NOT need to re-upload any 4K videos to have them playback in 4K, as this is being applied retroactively.
New Media Info Screen for Apps
In the MediaZilla app for Apple TV, Android TV, and Amazon Fire TV, you will now see a new screen when selecting videos or collections from the dashboard. This screen displays info about the project including the title, description, duration, 4K or HDR badge, and gives you the option to playback the content in HD or 4K if the original video was 4K.
More great features are on the way!
